Fertility Vision Board
I started making vision boards when my old mentor and boss had took the time to show me his and explain how powerful they can be in helping us visualize our goals for the future. Over the years I have made many. Often achieving so many things on them that I was able to toss one to create another. So as my husband and I decided to try to start conceiving our first child I created one focused on that goal.
There are no rules to me when creating vision boards. I do what best serves me at that time. Sometimes it’s only pictures, sometimes pictures and words. Sometimes it is focused on my whole life, sometimes just one facet of my life (like my career or in this case, conceiving a child).
I was 36 and had had gut issues most of my life. I spent many years going on and off of birth control, so I knew if we were to conceive I would have to be diligent about my health and wellness to make it happen. And so one day I sat down with a poster board and Crayola markers and created the below:
I hung it on the wall on my staircase so I would pass by it many times a day. The first month I was diligent and optimistic, but was slightly disheartened when my period came. The same for month two. On the third month after all my hard work and focusing on my health and wellness, life threw me a curveball, a really intense case of shingles on my face and in my eye.
With that I let go of the pressure to conceive because I was too busy trying to recover from the most excruciating pain I had ever felt. In that time of surrender, when I had stopped tracking ovulation and trying so hard, we conceived our daughter.
Life is beautiful that way. My vision board had helped me in many ways to prioritize my health and wellness in conceiving but it hadn’t allowed me to get out of my own way. I was still placing so much pressure on myself. The lesson learned was use the tools and still be open to life happening and creating something even better than I thought possible.
