Health and Wellness Coaching Tools

An important part of any health and wellness coaching journey is the tools that are used to help the client grow on their journey and understand themselves better. This blog post will go over 5 tools used regularly in coaching.

  1. Affirmations: Affirmations are positive phrases that can be made into notes to be hung up at home, made into a phone screen background, or said during a meditation. Affirmations are a great way to focus on areas where someone may normally think negatively about themselves, want to push themselves in, or have self doubt and turn it into a positive. In coaching a coach may speak positive affirmations to you or challenge you to make your own. An example of an affirmation is “I am a strong, thoughtful, and creative leader.”

  2. Decisional balance: Decisional balance is a coaching tool that allows the client to weigh out all options of a decision before making it. This tool is a bit different than a normal pro and con list because it also takes into consideration both making the change and staying the same.

  3. Brainstorming: Brainstorming is a way for the client to have the coach give their insight into a problem they may be having. It allows for ideas from both sides and keeps the client in control because they get to make the ultimate decision on what to do with the ideas from the brainstorm.

  4. Vision boards: Vision boards create a visual representation of goals. They can be done on a specific topic or be generalized to someone’s life. They can be done by drawing, collaging, or digitally. A coach may encourage a client to create a vision board at different times throughout the coaching process.

  5. Wheel or life: The wheel of life can be done during or outside a coaching session. The client assigns a numerical rating to different facets of their life on a wheel. It can help clients know where to set goals, help the coach get to know the client better, help the client get to know themselves better, and be used as a check-in for growth.

These are just 5 of the many important tools used in health and wellness coaching. Each client may use any number of these tools on their journey to help them achieve their goals in order to get to their optimal vision of health and wellness.
